Samsung Medison Acquires French AI Startup Sonio

Samsung Medison, a global leader in medical equipment and an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, has acquired Sonio SAS, a French startup specializing in AI for fetal ultrasound technology. The deal, finalized on May 3, 2024, gives Samsung Medison full ownership of Sonio.

Founded in 2020, Sonio has developed AI-driven solutions for prenatal ultrasound, including the FDA-cleared Sonio Detect. This software enhances image quality and diagnostic accuracy using deep learning networks.

Following the acquisition, Sonio will remain an independent entity based in Paris and will continue to work with various ultrasound device manufacturers. The integration of Sonio’s AI technology with Samsung Medison’s ultrasound systems aims to innovate prenatal care and improve patient outcomes.

Yong Kwan Kim, CEO of Samsung Medison, praised the acquisition, saying, “We admire what Sonio has achieved in maternal care. This partnership will enhance our technology and transform prenatal ultrasound exams with top-notch AI capabilities.”
