FKCCI hosts an Innovation Committee on Smart Cities
On Nov. 8, the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a special edition of its Innovation Committee on smart cities. After an introduction of Mr. David-Pierre JALICON, Chairman of FKCCI and Mr. Philippe LI, Honorary Chairman of FKCCI and Head of the Committee, we welcomed the president of the Korean Smart City Association Pr. Hyunchul KANG and IFEZ Smart-City Integrated Operation Center director Mr. Ryan LEE.
Mr. Ryan LEE presented the concept of smart city as a new paradigm of integrated services based on IT and more specifically the smart city project in the Incheon Free Economic Zone in the three areas of Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna, which is the oldest and most developed smart city project in the Peninsula. At first based on large-scale investment and long-term planning since 2005 the zone has now the infrastructure since 2016 (from sensors on the streets to the operation center including big data servers and cloud technology) to go one step further and welcome the private sector to invest and develop more smart services. Currently, the city offers services such as real time traffic information, crime prevention and environment monitoring, all gathered on the same smart city platform. This platform dubbed Integrated Operation Center is equipped with a technology drive system centered on core technology, a data driven system for integration between areas, and a governance system for continuous implementation.
Adopting an incremental approach, the area is planning from 2017 to 2022 to develop step by step new services based on IoT and cloud technique hand in hand with private companies, especially start-ups from abroad.
