Bastille Day 2019: we celebrate the French National Day in Seoul!
FKCCI Bastille Day 2019 which was held on the 12th of July at Floating Island in Seoul was a real success with more than 500 participants this year!
On July 12th, the French-Korean community celebrated the French national day, on the Dung-Dung-Seom “Floating Islands” on the Han river. The celebration, which was hosted by FKCCI in partnership with the French Embassy in Seoul and the French Cultural Institute, is one of the biggest gathering of the year for the French-Korean community.
Beyond showcasing French know-hows with traditional food & beverages, musical shows and flagship brands, the Bastille Day was highlighting the French-Korean friendship, as every year, more than 500 guests from both countries gather during this joyful night.
“In this chaotic world with more unilateral positions, the values of French Republic of “Freedom, Equality and Fraternity”, that we celebrate tonight are more than ever relevant” said Mr Jalicon, FKCCI’s chairman, in his opening speech. “In this regard, France shares with Korea many features, both are middle-sized democracies with strong cultures and headed toward innovation” he added.
The French National Day commemorates the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution, which established for the first-time civic rights in the country.
The event hosted many booths featuring flagship French delicacies, such as cheese & wine, champagne, cider and crêpes offered by generous sponsors. Our guest could enjoy a flute of G.H. Mumm champagne, a bottle of 1664 Blanc beer and cups of Evian, Badoit, Ocean Spray as well as Orangina! There were various types of food booths who served ‘St-Michel’ biscuits, ‘SASSY’ ciders, ‘Le monde des Crêpes’ crêpes, Laughing Cow products from Bel Cheese and delicatessen from ‘France Gourmet’ through the aisle to the convention hall and Villa de Noche hall.
For the occasion as well, the guests could enjoy fireworks in the beautiful scenery of the Han river, and a concert of Alley X Jéhee (앨리 X 제희), the Korean Jazz singer Alley with her accordionist Jéhee who studied at the CIM school, the first jazz school in France. The event was closed by two DJ sets of young French talents, MIMI MELANIN and Damian B, which are getting more and more recognized in the Seoul nightlife underground scene.
The moderators were the celebrities Ms. Ida Daussy and Fabien Yoon who stunned the Korean guests with their perfect Korean and French emceeing. As a Korean TV celebrity, professor and entrepreneur, Ida Daussy has been living in South Korea and sharing French culture for the past 27 years. As for Fabien Yoon, he has conquered Korean hearts for 10 years now: as a model, radio and TV host, actor and cookbook author.
The event dropped the curtain at midnight, leaving precious memories behind and promising expectations to meet again next year.
