FKCCI and Invest Seoul present the 2023 Beauty & Fashion Conference to empower Korean startups

On September 13, 2023, the 2023 Beauty & Fashion Conference was hosted by FKCCI and Invest Seoul at the Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam. The event aimed to celebrate the fusion of intellect and innovation in the beauty and fashion industries by providing essential insights to beauty and fashion venture companies. The insights will help them adapt to the ever-evolving global trends and establish investment strategies.

The conference was held in a hybrid format and was comprised of three pivotal segments: "2023 Beauty and Fashion Trends," "Investment Prospects for the Year," and "Investment Opportunities for Korean Startups." During the event, industry experts from France took the stage and unveiled the latest trends and advancements in the sectors, which offered attendees a unique opportunity to reshape their perceptions of these dynamic industries.

In the domain of beauty, Franckie Béchereau, Deputy General Manager of Cosmetic Valley, a renowned French cosmetics industry cluster, and esteemed member of the FKCCI, came to Korea to deliver invaluable insights into global beauty trends. Cosmetic Valley aims to expand its reach and impact in the global beauty industry by boosting cooperation with Korea. To achieve this objective, they have enlisted the help of FKCCI, which will serve as a vital link between the two nations. FKCCI, a longstanding and reliable partner of Cosmetic Valley, helped them connect with Korean organizations. For instance, Cosmetic Valley had signed an MOU with both the Seoul Metropolitan Government in October of the previous year and Jeju Technopark in April, to bolster the international potential of K-beauty and assist Korean companies in their global expansion.

During the fashion segment of the conference, two experts from the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM)a prestigious French fashion business education institution, shared valuable insights and strategies to foster the growth of K-fashion. Marie-Pierre Gendarme, the Executive Education Director, and Marine Basset-Chercot, the International Project Manager, acknowledged the rapidly changing trends in the fashion industry and the global influence of K-pop culture as a unique opportunity for growth.

The final part of the conference was dedicated to attracting investments, where promising companies in the beauty and fashion sectors were introduced to global investors. Noted venture capital experts, including Pierre Joo, Managing Director Korea of Korelya Capital, Heather Kim, Manager of AWESOME VENTURES, and Christine Lu, Associate of Complus Asset, presented their insights into the year's investment perspectives within these industries.

Following the enlightening presentations, the conference transitioned into a pitch contest, showcasing the dreams of four pioneering Korean start-ups: Fastlane, Bejewel, Powerplayer, and Prinker Korea. These innovators, specializing in areas such as one-stop skincare and jewelry platforms, vegan cosmetics, and printing tattoo solutions, presented their technologies and competitive edge to potential investors.
