Daegu and parts of Gyeongbuk Region Designated as Special Disaster Zones
On March 15th, the Korea Government has designated Daegu and parts of Gyeongbuk Region as "special disaster zones". Regulated by the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety, the designation of "special disaster zone" allows to extend financial help by the State and reduce social security charges, taxes and utility fees. Under this regulation, the government can subsidize up to 50% of restoration expenses. This is the first time the government applies this regulation in case of the breakout of an infectious disease.
Previously, on Feb. 21st 2020, Daegu Gyeongbuk Region and Gyeongsan District were designated as "special care zone" which involved no legal framework.
