Professor Park Hyeon-seong Receives Academic Promotion Award at the 22nd Korea L’Oreal-UNESCO Women Scientist Awards
The 22nd Korea L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Scientists' Award Ceremony took place on June 27th at Some Sevit, sponsored by L’Oreal Korea and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, and hosted by the Women's Bioscience Forum (WBF). Professor Hyun-Sung Park from the Department of Life Sciences at the College of Natural Sciences, University of Seoul, was honored with the Academic Promotion Award for his remarkable contributions to epigenetic research, specifically in the field of cancer and vascular disease treatments.
In the category recognizing emerging female scientists, the fellowship recipients included Han-seul Park, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, Chungbuk National University; Ina Yoon, Senior Researcher at the Center for Pharmaceutical Bioconvergence Research; Ja-Young Kim, Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Engineering, Yonsei University College of Medicine; and Minkyung Kim, Assistant Professor at the Department of Earth System, College of Natural Sciences, Kyungpook National University. The winners of the Academic Promotion Award and Fellowship will be presented with certificates and plaques, along with research support grants of 30 MKRW and 5 MKRW, respectively.
Following the award ceremony, the five winners came together for a panel discussion on the theme of "The Role of Diversity in the Convergence of Science." During the panel talk, they shared their perspectives on the importance of inclusive research in eliminating prejudice and inequality, thereby fostering the development of science and technology while strengthening reliability and consensus within the field.
Samuel du RETAIL, CEO of L'Oreal Korea, emphasized, "Diversity and inclusion in science are of utmost importance in tackling global challenges, improving quality of life, and advancing technology. We would like to express our gratitude to the awardees for their valuable contributions to the progress of science and diversity" and promised that L'Oreal Korea will remain steadfast in a commitment to continuously support the research ecosystem and the rights and interests of female scientists.
Since 2002, L'Oréal Korea, in collaboration with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and the Women's Life Science and Technology Forum, has been jointly selecting and honoring exceptional female scientists. This initiative aims to contribute to the development of the domestic women's science community. To date, a total of 95 winners (including multiple recipients) have been recognized, and L'Oréal Korea continues its efforts to encourage more women to pursue careers in science and technology while supporting promising young female scientists.
