Presidents Yoon and Macron meet on the side of OTAN summit

On June 29th Presidents Yoon Suk-yeol and Emmanuel Macron met on the side of the OTAN summit in Madrid to discuss bilateral relations

The two leaders assessed that the two countries have extended their cooperation based on universal values ​​such as liberal democracy and human rights, and agreed to strengthen the strategic cooperation in more areas.

They also shared the importance of developing nuclear energy to effectively achieve carbon neutrality and agreed to expand their cooperation to ensure the safety of nuclear power plants and enhance the competitiveness of the nuclear industry. 

They also said they hoped to see cooperation in the space industry strengthen, especially with regard to the development of small and medium-sized satellites.

Yoon also asked France to support South Korea's bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan.

Regarding the North Korean nuclear program, Yoon asked France to play a role as a permanent member country of the UN Security Council.

Macron said he appreciated Seoul's diplomatic efforts to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and affirmed his willingness to strengthen cooperation to fully implement Security Council resolutions, among others.

Yoon invited his French counterpart to visit South Korea, according to the presidential office.
