Kering Redefines Sustainable Luxury: Pioneering a New Standard in the Luxury Industry

Kering FKCCI Marie-Claire Daveu conference

On July 28th, the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), in collaboration with Kering, a global leader in the luxury industry, held an exceptional seminar focused on "Sustainability in Business." The event took place at the FKCCI office in the vibrant center of Gangnam, bringing together executive leaders and industry experts to explore sustainable practices in the luxury sector.

As issues such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, and resource depletion become more evident, Kering recognizes the critical role of implementing sustainable strategies, especially considering that luxury products heavily rely on raw materials sourced from nature.

Mr. David-Pierre JALICON, FKCCI Chairman and CEO of DPJ & Partners Architecture, warmly opened the event with a welcoming speech and introduced Mrs. Marie-Claire DAVEU, Chief Sustainability, and Institutional Affairs Officer at Kering as the esteemed keynote speaker for the occasion.

During her insightful presentation, Mrs. Daveu shed light on the company's sustainability strategy, which includes concrete targets aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the use of EP&L tool for measuring environmental footprints, and the importance of responsible supply chains and regenerative nature. She emphasized the vital role of top management in driving sustainability initiatives, citing both ethical reasons and the necessity for ensuring continued business growth.

“Something that’s quite new but interesting is to see also financial communities pay more and more attention to what we call ESG. […] We have to manage sustainability as rigorously as we manage the finances. Sustainability is not just a choice but a responsibility, and a pathway to a more successful and resilient business in the long term”, she remarked.

Following the enlightening presentation, the seminar moved into a round table discussion, moderated by Mr. Frederic OJARDIAS, an author and former correspondent for Radio France International, La Croix, and Mediapart. The guests from diverse sectors, engaged in vibrant discussions on the challenges and opportunities in integrating sustainability into their organizations.

The seminar concluded on a positive note, offering participants a networking session accompanied by a delightful breakfast, providing the perfect environment for fostering connections and facilitating meaningful exchanges among attendees.
