FKCCI Hosts Annual Newcomers Seminar: Guiding Expatriates Towards Successful Integration in South Korea

Séminaire nouveaux arrivants expatriés en Corée du Sud

On October 18th, 2024, the FKCCI proudly hosted newly arrived expatriates in Korea for a full-day seminar, equipping them with essential information and valuable insights to help them thrive in their new journey in Korea.

Each year, the FKCCI welcomes an increasing number of expatriates, as Korea continues to attract more global professionals by offering favorable conditions for the international business community. This growth reflects the global surge in the French population in Korea, with approximately 6,000 long-term residents (over three months) and around 12,000 French people in South Korea overall. However, smoothly integrating into a country with distinct cultural, social, and economic systems remains a challenge.

To address this, we brought together a distinguished panel of experts, some of whom have been living in Korea for decades, to share their insights on how to navigate and succeed in this dynamic environment. The comprehensive program included:

  • French Presence in South Korea & Korean Cultural Systems by David-Pierre Jalicon, FKCCI Chairman and the first French architect to establish his firm in Korea.
  • French Presence in South Korea & Embassy of France in South Korea by Bertrand Jadot, First Counsellor of the Embassy of France in South Korea.
  • Korean Macroeconomic by Mrs. Marlene MARQUES-LOPES, Economic Counsellor & Head of the Economic Department of French Embassy
  • Digital Ecosystem by Olivier Mouroux, CEO & Co-founder of Asiance, covering the evolving digital landscape.
  • Korean Laws and Regulations by Johan Vandromme, Senior Advisor at Kim & Chang, offering legal guidance.
  • Taxation and Social Security for Expatriates in Korea by Mr. Julien HERVEAU, Managing Partner of Forvis Mazars in Korea
  • France’s Image in Korea by Ida Daussy, Media figure, Entrepreneur, and Professor at Sookmyung Women’s University, exploring perceptions of France.
  • Presentation of "Séoul Accueil" by Mrs. Caroline ERDOGAN, Vice-Présidente de Séoul Accueil
  • Presentation of the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) by Sonia Chaieb, Deputy CEO of the FKCCI.

The FKCCI looks forward to welcoming you to next year’s seminar for newcomers. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to the FKCCI for any information you may need regarding your expatriation and professional development in Korea!
