[Call for Nominations] L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science 2024 International Awards
The nominations for the 2024 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards are open until June 28. Created in 1988, this prestigious awards recognize and support 5 eminent women scientists from 5 regions of the world. To date, the program has awarded more than 100 laureates, five of whom have gone on to win Nobel Prizes.
Every other year, the International Awards are presented to women researchers in life sciences or physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. In 2024, five laureates in life or environmental sciences will be chosen for each of the five regions: Africa and the Middle-East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. The key criterion is that the candidates must have worked in their respective regions for at least 10 years.
Meanwhile, L’Oréal Korea had also completed application period for ‘2023 Korea L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards’. This award, launched in 2002, collaborates with the Women's Bioscience Forum (WBF) and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO to provide support to female scientists in Korea.
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- Actively involved in any field of life and environmental sciences.
- Recognized for her scientific excellence by the international scientific community.
- Actively involved in scientific research.
Key criteria
- Candidate’s outstanding contribution to the advancement of science.
- Impact of the candidate’s research work on the current state of her scientific field (number, quality and impact of publications, conference presentations, patents).
- Recognition of the candidate by peers within her discipline through publications.
- Recognition of the candidate’s commitment to education, teaching activities, mentoring and/or to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals more broadly.

- Each of the five laureates selected by a jury of internationally renowned experts will receive an award of €100,000 (147 MKRW) and their awards in June 15, 2024 in Paris.
*To be considered eligible for an Award, it is necessary to be nominated in writing by an eminent scientist.
*Self-nominations are not eligible, nor nominations from immediate family members and teams are not eligible for nomination.
