FKCCI Chairman David-Pierre Jalicon Attends Welcome Luncheon for New Foreign Investment Ombudsman, Mr. Kim Doo-sik
On June 26th, 2025, Mr. David-Pierre Jalicon, Chairman of the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), joined leaders from other major foreign chambers of commerce in Korea at a luncheon hosted to welcome Mr. Kim Doo-sik, the newly appointed Foreign Investment Ombudsman. More than a ceremonial occasion, the event provided a valuable forum for open dialogue and reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening Korea’s investment climate for foreign businesses.
In his keynote address, Mr. Kim outlined his strategic priorities: enhancing Korea’s appeal as a top investment destination and delivering tailored support to help foreign companies grow with confidence. Drawing on his experience as a legal and financial advisor to major firms, he expressed his resolve to support businesses in overcoming regulatory challenges and navigating the Korean market. He also underscored the importance of long-term structural reforms and announced plans to work closely with government agencies to deliver data-driven policy recommendations. Collaboration, he noted, would be central to this approach, with input from a wide range of sectors and perspectives shaping future strategies.
“Our role is to actively assist companies with expert resources while addressing the obstacles they face,” Mr. Kim stated.
Speaking on behalf of FKCCI, Mr. Jalicon warmly welcomed the appointment and shared an optimistic view of the current transition. “With a new president, a new government, and now a new Ombudsman, we are entering a fresh chapter,” he said. He highlighted the symbolic importance of the moment, noting that 2026 will mark both the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea and the 40th anniversary of FKCCI.
Mr. Jalicon acknowledged the pivotal role the Ombudsman plays in addressing the challenges faced by foreign businesses in Korea. He emphasized the value of early dialogue, proactive cooperation, and continuous engagement to foster a more predictable, supportive business environment.
“It’s always easier to prevent problems than to fix them afterward,” he added, reinforcing the importance of ongoing collaboration between the public and private sectors.
As a gesture of trust and partnership, Mr. Jalicon offered Mr. Kim an honorary FKCCI membership, symbolizing the Chamber’s strong commitment to working closely with the Ombudsman’s office in the years to come.
The luncheon concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared vision for deeper cooperation, with participants expressing optimism about the future of foreign investment in Korea.
